The Swift Current Broncos dropped a 7-2 decision to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night, creating a 1-1 series in their second round WHL Playoff matchup.

Just one night after the Broncos grabbed a 7-2 win of their own, the script was flipped.

Josh Filmon opened the scoring for Swift Current, but a shorthanded Brayden Yager goal for the Warriors made it 1-1 after one period.

Then in the second, the Warriors took over with six more unanswered goals, two more from Yager, and singles from Denton Mateychuk, Jagger Firkus, Martin Rysavy, and Kalem Parker to make it 7-1 after two periods.

Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said they have to take this game as a lesson.

“Their best players made some really good plays and you have to be able to respond,” he said. “We just got a little passive and gave them too much time and space and they made us pay. So have to be able to learn and learn quickly in the playoffs.”

Broncos goalie Reid Dyck was pulled after stopping 18 of 25 shots through just over 32 minutes. Joey Rocha stopped all 14 shots he faced in just about 27 minutes of relief.

Caleb Wyrostok scored shorthanded for the Broncos in the third period to make it 7-2 but that’s where things concluded.

The series now shifts to Swift Current on Tuesday and Wednesday for Games three and four.
