Reports are coming in regarding slippery road conditions in the region. Several reports from Highway 5 east of the Highway 2 junction to Saskatchewan have roads slippery with several cars in the ditch through the construction zone. The combination of wet snow, near zero temperatures and gusty north winds are making for slippery conditions. Snowfall is expected through the next 24 hours with similar temperatures and wind conditions throughout that period.
Check on the Highway Hotline for the latest in travel conditions, and exercise caution if you must head out on the roads.

Another taste of winter is set to come knocking over the next few days with a combination low pressure system and cold front moving across the province. The system is packing a significant bundle of moisture that has arrived in the form of rain. That rain will deliver some snowfall to Humboldt and east central Saskatchewan says Environment Canada and Climate Change meteorologist Eric Dykes.
“A low-pressure system is coming in slowly from the west is providing shower activity to a lot of southern Saskatchewan, although it’s scattered in nature.”
The low itself is expected to hit Humboldt tonight, and as a result, the showers will pick up in earnest through the evening and into the overnight. No significant accumulations of rain are expected.
“The showers will flip over to snow with the associated cold front going through by Wednesday morning. Temperatures will drop to around the freezing mark, and the winds will pick up out of the northwest and we’ll see a couple centimetres of snow with the frontal passage.”
The story will be similar into Wednesday night and Thursday, with moisture continuing to infiltrate behind the cold front.
“With that slow-moving, low-pressure system kind of hanging around the area, we'll see a lot of what we call hang back precipitation on the backside of that low pressure system. And that's going to continue to bring a few centimeters of light snow as we get through Wednesday night into Thursday.”
All told, the region is looking at 5-10 centimetres of snow over the 24 to 36 hour period, with local accumulations that could be higher.
The system will work its way eastward and out of the region in the Thursday overnight hours. Clearing should take place on Friday, although temperatures will remain on the brisk side. The temperature will begin to return to more spring like values by Saturday.
