The Government of Saskatchewan was named in a lawsuit revolving around the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash, and lawyers for a group of families are in court to make sure the province remains named in the suit.

The claim, made by five Broncos families involved in the suit, is that the government knew that the intersection where the crash occurred had sightline problems, but the province failed to do anything about it.

The suit names the government, truck driver Jaskirat Sidhu Singh who was found guilty of causing the crash, and the Calgary based truck company are all named in the civil suit. The government and the driver are both requesting their names be removed from the suit.

Singh’s truck sped through the stop sign at the intersections of Highways 35 and 335 resulting in the crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 others.

Sidhu is under a deportation order and is awaiting a decision on an application that would allow him to remain in Canada.
