It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Grant Wik, age 82 on May 31, 2024, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Husband to Olga, and father to Keni-Lynn, (Wayne), Ron, (Sandra); grandfather to Mariah, Zach, Josh, Nathan; and great grandfather to Myles & Blake.

Ken was born in Swift Current and is predeceased by his parents Jack and Ruth Wik; and sister Jackie (Peter) Maclean.

Ken was a shoeshine boy at the age of 12 in the Healy Hotel barbershop with his dad Jack, and then became a barber at the age of 16. Later he had a short stint with Mobile Oil as a battery operator before he started his sales career at Ham Motors, and then Jackson Motors. He then transitioned from selling vehicles to selling agricultural implements with Southwest Pro-ag, and finished up his sales career at L & R Truck Center.

Ken was always a farmer at heart! He began his agricultural journey in the Cantuar region during the late 1960s, nurturing his passion for farming until he acquired the Wik family farm near Gull Lake. With Olga by his side, they resided on the farm until retirement, and a move back to Swift Current. Their post-retirement years were marked by cherished travels to Mexico and Hawaii, as well as winters spent in Yuma, surrounded by lifelong friends and eventually joined by family. In their later years, they relished spending summers at their seasonal retreat in the Willow Bend Campground in Maple Creek.

Ken was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and travelled to Norway with his father Jack to visit with relatives, and see where the Wik family originated.

Ken possessed an irresistible smile, and it was Ken’s nature to make friendships with all he encountered. A devoted family man, he found immense joy in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his extended Wiebe family members including Dave, Reuben, Bob, Bill, and their families.

His passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his wife, Olga, of over 50 years, his two children and their families, and all who were fortunate to have known him and to have called him a friend.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home. For further information please call 1-306-773-8831 or 1-800-267-6606, or visit the website www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy to family members on the tribute wall.
