The House of David TV series is currently being filmed and set to be released worldwide on a popular streaming service.
The casting of the actors portraying David, Goliath, and Saul from the Bible has been released. Michael Iskander is leading the cast as the Egyptian-American actor portrays King David.
"I'm so humbled and honoured to be sharing this," says Iskander on Instagram. "Getting to tell David's story and to make him human is the most wonderful experience of my life. I cannot put my feelings into words."
The TV series is the first project of a new faith-based company called The Wonder Project. Jon Erwin is the founder & Chief Content Officer, who previously directed the film Jesus Revolution.
"I believe entertainment sits upstream from culture. And today, the world needs a way to find common ground again," former Netflix executive and new co-founder of The Wonder Project, Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, said to Variety. "Here at The WONDER Project, our goal is to flood the world with hope."
The TV series will be aired on Prime Video services, and have an agreement with Amazon MGM Studios.
"With House of David being the first project under this new deal, we're setting the stage for a series of compelling, values-driven movies, and TV shows," says Erwin to Variety. "This is a milestone for The WONDER Project, and we're thrilled to be working with a company that understands and supports our mission and our audience in such a groundbreaking way."
Erwin shares his excitement at seeing the cast come alive in these particular Biblical roles.
"House of David is our telling of a 3,000-year-old hero's journey, and it all starts with our David, Michael Iskander," says Erwin. "Finding Michael and getting to work with him has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Our entire cast is incredible, and I can't wait for a global audience to get to know them the way I do."
Before helping found The Wonder Project, Hoogstraten was in key leadership positions at Netflix, YouTube and Aura. She talks about how excited she is to share this type of content with the world.
"I am convinced we can make a difference by telling stories that restore hope in things worth believing in – family, community, God, and America," says Hoogstraten. "We will do this at scale for a global audience that seeks faith and values-driven entertainment. And we will give the audience a brand they can call their own."
Director Dallas Jenkins, who has worked on The Chosen Biblically-based TV series for years now, is a shareholder and special advisor with the studio.
"When we met with Jon, Kelly, and Dallas, their clear and passionate vision for The Wonder Project and their ambition to nurture universal stories of love, triumph, and spirituality moved us," said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. "We are very excited about the scope, scale, and storytelling involved with House of David and look forward to sharing this epic and many others with our global Prime Video customers."
House of David is currently being filmed in Greece. There is no set release date yet for the series.
