In response to the ongoing health workforce challenges, Grande Prairie City Council approved the Health Care Attraction and Retention Strategy during the Council meeting held on Monday, June 17.

The Strategy focuses on three key areas: information, incentives, and infrastructure. By actively promoting local opportunities, supporting initiatives to raise awareness of health care careers, and offering meaningful incentives, Grande Prairie aims to attract new health care workers, including physicians and specialists to the area.

The Strategy also focuses on long-term retention by integrating new health care professionals into the community and providing them with the necessary support and incentives to build their careers locally.

With a median age of 34 and a higher number of residents under 10 than over 60, the City and region are expected to grow faster than the provincial average of 1.5 per cent. To support this diverse and expanding population, a wide range of health care services is crucial.
