A man facing 33 fraud-related charges has been appointed legal counsel through Legal Aid.

Ryan Buckton appeared in Moose Jaw Province Court via video on Wednesday from remand. Legal Aid lawyer Zack Anderson said they have secured Regina lawyer Roch Dupont to represent Buckton.

Anderson told the court the Moose Jaw Legal Aid had just sent disclosure to Dupont and he would need a week or two to look over the allegations and speak with Buckton.

Provincial Crown Prosecutor Monique Paquin raised concerns about numerous delays in the case. However, she said she’s been in contact with Dupont about the status of the file.

Buckton is facing 33 charges including fraud, theft under $5,000, mischief, breach of conditions, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, tampering with a vehicle identification number, possession of counterfeit money, using counterfeit money, trafficking property obtained by crime, forgery, using forged documents, weapons trafficking and possession of firearms at an unauthorized place.

The case has been adjourned to July 17.
