It is finally farmers market season and Steinbach and District Farmers Market had their first market of July yesterday.

Around 20 vendors came to sell their homemade goods to the community including vegetables, jams, candles, jewelry, clothing, accessories, bread, and so much more.

Eva Doerksen, owner of ‘Eva’s’ brings a truck to the market filled with fresh vegetables, pickles, relish, jams, and jellies.

She has been a part of the Steinbach Market for 19 years and will continue to come every Thursday.

“We also go to the St. Norbert farmers market, and we are there every Saturday,” she says.

The rain Manitoba has been hit with may cause damage to Doerksen’s garden.

“It has affected our garden. The rain is too much at the moment,” Doerksen explains. “If we don’t have rain, I say for another week, then I think it will survive but it definitely has affected it and has set it back. It will take longer till the vegetables will be ready.”

She continues, “We have a garden that has higher parts and a lower part. The lower part we will lose but the higher part will still be ok.”

On a lighter note, Doerksen says she looks forward to each market and shares her favourite parts.

“To see the people, how happy they are when they see what they can buy!”

Barb Millman, the creator of ‘Barb’s Bodacious Crafts’, handmakes all the items she sells.

“I sell tea towels, dish cloths, scrubbies, swiffer covers, and tote bags,” Millman says.

She loves creating and tells the story of where it all began.

“My husband used to drive long-haul, so I had to find something to do, and this is what I started doing and I’ve been doing it ever since.”

“Come on down, there’s lots of vendors here and we need the people to come look at all the stuff!”

The Steinbach and District Farmers Market is located in the Clearspring Mall parking lot, beside Wendy’s and Boston Pizza.

They will be open every Thursday at 3pm to 6:30pm from now until the end of September.
