Following a deportation order issued to Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, the trucker found responsible for the devastation in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash has applied to have his permanent residence status returned. In May, that status was revoked along with the deportation order.
Sentenced to 8 years in prison at a court proceeding in Melfort, Sidhu was sentenced to 8 years in prison but was granted full parole last year.
Sidhu’s lawyer says that the request for reinstatement of the permanent residence was made on humanitarian grounds. Michael Greene said that Sidhu would likely not hear about the application status for several months, stating that the application could take up to two years going through channels.
One of the arguments for Sidhu to remain in Canada is based on available medical care for his child, a one-year-old with heart and lung ailments.
