Yesterday Grande Prairie Council unanimously passed the transfer of title of ownership for the property that Rising Above is on to the organization for $1.
Executive Director Mel Siggelkow says this is big news for Rising Above as they move forward with building the new facility. “It makes things a lot easier from a legal perspective, and it gives us better accountability to our donor base. They’ll be investing in a building that is actually on our property, under the control and management of Rising Above forever."
The current property at 11007 106 Street is assessed at well over one million dollars.
Siggelkow says the sale of land at one dollar really shows the support that the City of Grande Prairie has for the ministry.
“The City of Grande Prairie, the City Council and administration are standing with us and helping people break cycles of defeat.”
The city has also committed to do the majority of the maintenance on the current facility for the next seven years.
Rising Above is hoping to break ground on the new building late August, early September.
