Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon as they move from British Columbia into Alberta, potentially bringing strong wind gusts and large hail.

A prolonged heatwave continues with daytime highs ranging from 28 to 36 degrees Celsius, and overnight lows remaining warm between 14 and 21 degrees Celsius, offering little relief.

Cooler temperatures are anticipated to arrive in northwestern Alberta by mid next week, though hot conditions may persist into next weekend in some southern areas.

In the Dawson Creek and Fort St. John areas, high temperatures will continue due to a ridge of high pressure, with minimal nighttime cooling. Additionally, regions of British

Columbia, including the B.C. Peace River area, are likely to be affected by wildfire smoke over the next 24 to 48 hours.
