Talking about community engagement is one thing; living it out is something else entirely. When it comes to Pharmasave in Swift Current, you could say the business not only talks the talk but also walks the walk.

“We do a little bit of everything in the community, from helping seniors to supporting folks with lower incomes who might be struggling,” says Kenzie Haubrich, Pharmasave’s store operator. “It’s hard to list everything. We’re always trying to give back.”

Pharmasave has long understood – and Haubrich says this goes well beyond his time at the store – that involvement is cyclical: they get back what they put in.

“What you give out in the community always comes back to you,” Haubrich reflects. “We’ve known that for many years, and it’s something we’ve always been passionate about.”

As one example, customers may have previously noticed Pharmasave employees dressing up to support local organizations. It’s actually an ongoing initiative, and at the end of each month, the business donates the proceeds of its fundraising to a certain organization. In June, the recipient was the Cal Peterson Memorial, and in July it’ll be Cityscapes.

Then there are the seasonal activities, such as Pharmasave’s involvement in putting together Salvation Army gift baskets.

What makes Pharmasave in Swift Current different, says Haubrich, is its small business-style, grassroots care for the community it’s in.

“A lot of the bigger corporations are just trying to do numbers and chase production, whereas we actually care about getting to know our patients personally,” Haubrich explains. “We know that it does take a whole village to take care of people.”

On the practical, pharmacy side of things, Pharmasave continues to work closely with area physicians, lessening their burden by refilling common medications.

“If we can take some relief off of them and allow them to have more meaningful relationships with their patients, we know it helps out in the end,” says Haubrich, referring to those quick-in, quick-out appointments for prescriptions the pharmacy could look after in the first place. “Our pharmacists are doing some prescribing, and that just helps alleviate things for everyone.”

Pharmasave also continues to work towards a pre-pandemic level of community engagement. Haubrich says he hopes to see the community continue making meaningful connections, whether through collaboration, support for non-profits or boosting local businesses.

“We’re always looking for new and different ways to innovate and reach out to the community,” he says. “We’re always here to help and to offer our assistance.”
