The City of Grande Prairie begins its annual Bridge Repair and Maintenance Program on July 26. This initiative aims to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of the city’s bridge infrastructure by addressing various repair needs at several identified locations throughout the city.

The 2024 program includes structural repairs on five vehicle bridges, two bridge culverts, three pedestrian bridges, and the Kayak Launch. Specific repairs under this program include washing, sealing concrete structures, partial depth concrete repairs, and other essential maintenance tasks to enhance the structural integrity of these vital crossings.

Bridge Repair and Maintenance Locations

Vehicle Bridges:

  • 108 Street (near Centre 2000) – both bridges
  • 100 Avenue westbound
  • 68 Avenue – both bridges

Bridge Culverts:

  • 92 Street, south of 84 Avenue
  • South of 100 Avenue/Hwy 43

Pedestrian Bridges:

  • Waxwing Trail Yellow Bridge (southwest of Muskoseepi Park)
  • Waxwing Trail Yellow Bridge (southeast of Muskoseepi Park)
  • Pedestrian bridge near 79 Avenue

Kayak Launch: Access to the Kayak Launch will be restricted as the current structure is removed and the area is restored.

To ensure the safety of both workers and residents, short-term lane closures will be implemented on vehicle bridges, and traffic speed will be reduced to 30 kph near bridge culverts when workers are present. Pedestrian bridges will have varying levels of access restrictions, with some closed entirely for the duration of the work and others for a single day.

Work is anticipated to begin with the pedestrian bridge near 79 Avenue. Subsequent announcements will be provided as needed to update the public on work commencement and completion dates at the various locations.
