Between now and the end of August, Firewood2Go is inviting new and existing customers to cut costs on high-quality fuel wood. Cords of 8’ pine logs are currently on sale for $150 – a price that also includes delivery (12 cord minimum).

With firewood season typically heating up by mid-August, Firewood2Go general Manager Sjoerd Huese is encouraging folks to reserve their cords before there’s a waiting list.

“If you want to beat the rush, order now,” he says. “We’ll come to your yard with a picker truck and unload in the spot where you’d like it.”

The sale price assumes delivery in and around southeast Manitoba, but Firewood2Go will drive further at a small premium.

“If you buy it now, you have time to dry it before winter and lots of time to cut and split it before it gets cold,” says Huese. “We also sell cut and split firewood for you to pick up if you run out of stock on those -30 days.”

Started as the side project of three brothers growing up on a Blumenort-area dairy farm, the business that became Southeast Pallet – of which Firewood2Go is a part – has now been in the logging industry for more than 70 years. From their sawmill on Penner Dr in Blumenort, they now produce pallets and pallet parts for numerous manufacturers in western Canada, as well as biomass for Hutterite colonies and coloured mulch for landscaping.

“From the byproduct, we also sell sawdust that goes to cattle, poultry and dairy farms,” explains Huese. “And of course we sell fuel wood to boiler home burners.”

Sustainability is key to Firewood2Go’s operations.

“It is full cycle – from cutting the log all the way to using it all up,” says Huese. “The only waste we produce is contained in a bin on our yard which is filled about once a month. Our carbon footprint is really small and very neutral.”

Huese says that anyone wishing to take advantage of the fuel wood sale should call Amber at (204) 326-8899. They can also view the company’s products and reserve their cords on Firewood2Go’s website.

“Community support is everything, not only to our business but also in the way our employees participate in volunteer work, sports and so many other things,” Huese concludes. “It is important for us to support the community.”
