The finale to the extreme heat this week came on Thursday, with temperatures reaching into the mid to high 30s across the southern part of the province breaking multiple records.

Some of those records include:

  • Lucky Lake at 34.9 (beating the record of 34.5 set in 2023)

  • Rockglen at 34.9 (beating the record of 34.7 set in 2023)

  • Assiniboia at 35.7 (beating the record of 34.9 set in 2023)

  • Coronach at 37.6 (beating the record of 36.4 set in 2023)

Estevan just barely missed breaking its own record, with a recorded high of 36.0 just shy of the record 36.1 set in 1936 and met just last year.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Andy Yun says that for the southern parts of Saskatchewan, it can be difficult to break records because there's been so many hot days.

"It looks like in southern Saskatchewan for a lot of stations to break all-time records, they pretty much have to hit either a few degrees more into like 39 or almost 40° marks, so there's certainly been some a lot warmer records in the past."

Hot weather is expected through the last week of July, but that's unlikely to break any temperature records.
