Lavon was born on March 23, 1926 on a farm 5 miles south of Shackleton, Saskatchewan. Later on her family moved to the Battrum Area where she attened Battrum School. Lavon married Ross Shaw on August 19, 1953, she and Ross lived on the farm where Joe Shaw homesteaded, until 2008 when they moved to Cabri. While living on the farm she grew large vegetable and flower gardens. She learned how to milk cows, and care for hundreds of chickens and some geese. Lavon also hauled grain at harvest, even though she never had a driver's license. On one occasion, Ross was combining on the Worsell farm and had a breakdown on the combine. After he fixed it, he left the tool box under the tree shelters to be picked up later. Well Lavon came to dump the combine and somehow managed to run over the tool box length ways and completely flattened it. Ross was not impressed, but kept his mouth shut, since she was his only trucker. Lavon and Ross joined the Swift Current Antique Car Club and spent many summers on tours with the club members from the 70's to the 90's.
Lavon was proud of the fact she was 100% Norwegian, and she would let you know too. She was an avid sports fan and athlete. She was a pitcher and was known to strike out many ball players. In later years she followed curling, knew all of the teams and the names of the players on each provincial team. Perry bought her tickets to see Norway play Canada at The World's Ladies Curling in Swift Current. Yes, she cheered for Norway. Lavon had five favorite foods: Lefsa, Kokanee, fish & chips, black licorice, and wine.
When Ross moved to the Prairie Health Care Centre in Cabri in December of 2019, Lavon lived on her own until July of 2021. After a fall at home, she reluctantly moved to the centre. The family would like to thank the staff of The Prairie Health Care Centre for all of the care and attention they gave her. Rest in Peace Ole.
