Marilyn passed away peacefully in her sleep at the long term care home in Leader on July 23, 2024. Mom was born in 1930 and raised on a farm north of Leader by her parents Gustav and Mollie Trautwein. She grew up with four siblings: Eleanor, Robert, Elaine, and Carol. She is predeceased by all of them with the exception of her youngest sister Carl (Wickenheiser) who resides in Medicine Hat.
Mom worked in the hospital at Leader until she married Morley Clary in 1951. They moved to Lancer shortly after and embraced the challenges of a farming lifestyle. While raising four children, Mom took pride in a neat house and yard, and was thankful for the bounty a large garden provided. She loved to work in the yard and took pleasure in a diverse assortment of floral decor every spring.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl (Don Spencer), and their two children Derek (Sarah), and greatgrandchild Olivia; daughter Blaire (Jay McCloskey); Bob (Danelda) and their three children Killian, Delano (Krysta), and Daniel; Jack and Jim who farmed with Morley. Morley passed away in 2016 so Mom and Dad celebrated 63 wedding anniversaries. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended families, as well as Morley’s only sister Yvonne.
Marilyn was thoughtful, considerate and kind. It was simply her nature because she absolutely cherished her family, relatives, and friends. In the earlier years, she enjoyed travelling immensely and managed to see some pretty memorable and distant holiday destinations with family and friends. Morley loved to fly, so the flying farmer’s affiliation provided opportunities to socialize and forge friendships locally and out of province.
Even later in life Mom remained active in community events associated with the United Church Ladies, as well as participation in the Bridge Club, Tennis Club, Golf Club, and the Curling Club. Her incredible cooking ability may be her most enduring legacy. The family can vouch for the fact that she was a potential candidate for the Guinness Book of World Records for how many cook books you could stuff in a kitchen cupboard.
On behalf of the Clary family, we wish to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff at the LTC Home in Leader regarding the quality of care Marilyn received the past several years.
