Police have released more information on a fatal shooting.

According to Strathmore RCMP, at around 12 p.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 6) police received a call about a shooting near the intersection of Range Road 282 and Township 250 in Rocky View County.

"Upon arrival our members discovered that two individuals had been shot," said Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz, the detachment commander for Strathmore RCMP. "One superficially. Tragically, the second succumbed to their injuries."

RCMP said two people fled the scene in a white half ton pickup truck which was a Rocky View Country fleet vehicle. Various RCMP detachments, Police Dog Services, RCMP Emergency Response Team as well as Calgary Tactical Team and the Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety from the Calgary Police Service were on hand to help with the investigation.

Police told StrathmoreNow the vehicle was tracked to a second location near the intersection of Township Road 252 and Range Road 260, where it was dumped.

RCMP released an Emergency Alert at around 1:30 p.m. saying that the two individuals were armed and dangerous. An advisory was also placed by police telling members of the public to shelter in place. That alert was lifted around 4:30 p.m.

"Through our efforts we were able to prove that the suspects were no longer in the area, which is the reason why the hold and secure was lifted at that time," added Wielgosz.

The name of the person who was killed will not be released by the RCMP. The motive is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.

Wielgosz says the descriptor of each person is not available at the moment, which is why RCMP didn't provide that information to the public.

These types of violent crimes are not something police are accustomed to dealing with in Strathmore and its rural areas according to Wielgosz.

"Our members are dedicated at investigating this occurrence and finding out exactly what happened and to share as much information with the public when we can."

For now, RCMP say that they can't share any more details as to where the individuals might be heading next.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed either event or has dash cam footage to contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968 or Crime Stoppers.
