The City of Grande Prairie begins construction on 68 Avenue this week.
The project includes milling the existing road surface, applying new pavement, spot replacing concrete curb and sidewalks, performing minor repairs to storm sewer infrastructure, re-establishing road line markings and crosswalk lines, and landscaping.
Project Scope:
- Location: 68 Avenue between Poplar Drive and Resources Road, and 68 Avenue between 86 Street and the City Limit and some minor repairs on 68 Avenue between 100 Street and Polar Drive.
- Timeline: Construction is expected to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting. Crews will work from Monday to Saturday.
Traffic and Safety: During the construction period, traffic will be restricted but maintained, with a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h. Motorists should anticipate alternating single-lane traffic within construction zones and are advised to exercise caution, follow signage, and heed directions from flag persons. Short-term road closures may occur, but access for local traffic will be maintained. Pathway and sidewalk access will remain open.
