Two losses for Crown Corporations arising from reportedly fraudulent activity were seen earlier this week in the quarterly loss report.

In one of the cases, a SaskTel employee was terminated following “two fraudulent attempts on the same day to acquire SaskTel devices," with the instances happening between December 2023 and April 2024.

The six lost devices have not been recovered, and the outstanding balance for the wireless account impacted remains uncollected. The total loss reported was $6,223.25.

Following the incident, a second approver will be needed to set up corporate accounts.

SaskBuilds and Procurement, Parks Culture and Sport and Commercial Revolving Fund also reported a loss of $34,556.11 to fraud.

Payments made in May or June reportedly ended up in “inappropriate bank accounts” due to impersonation of a supplier, with the report indicating that it is not suspected that a supplier, contractor, or employee was involved in this instance.

So far $20,948.69 of the outstanding amount has been reclaimed following this incident, and police are investigating.
