A former director of the Autumn House Independent Living Facility accused of being overpaid while working at the Gull Lake business saw her charge stayed by the Crown yesterday.
Tayler Hall was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 on Dec. 27, 2023, following an investigation by the Swift Current Rural RCMP that alleged she was overpaid for hours worked and paid for hours not worked.
Crown prosecutor Curtis Wiebe elected for the stay-in-proceedings during a preliminary hearing for the case in Swift Current Provincial Court.
"I had an opportunity to ask a few pointed questions regarding the evidence today," he said. "Sometimes evidence is an evolving thing, and you can get more evidence as the file goes along, so I was wondering this morning if I could get enough evidence to meet that standard but decided that the evidence fell short."
The stay-in-proceedings pauses the case and gives the Crown up to one year to resume the prosecution attempt.
"Let's say if the evidence changed and all of sudden, we do have enough evidence to proceed we could bring things back within a year," Wiebe said explaining it hypothetically.
