Ted Pott passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on August 13, 2024, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba. He was 73 years old.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Dorothy of 24 years, his children Jason (Nichole) and Tammy (Stacy), his grandchildren Gavin, Bailey, Weston, and Keaton, sister Bernice (Ken), stepmother Jean, stepsister Joanne, brother-in-law Ron, many nieces and nephews, and all of Dorothy’s family.
Ted was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Jessie Pott, sister Mavis, and his beloved dog named Lacey.
Ted was born on April 13th, 1951, in the Vita Hospital, and lived in Sundown for the first four years of his life. He then moved to Roseau River where he attended Planky Planes School. Later on, he went to Shevchenko School in Vita. At age 16, Ted began working for his dad driving a gravel truck part-time for Wilfred Pott Trucking. That was the beginning of his career in the trucking industry. He went on to work for Penner Transfer, Bill Borden Trucking, and then ended with 19 years at Diamond Construction. Ted enjoyed driving trucks and took pride in having a clean vehicle.
Family was very important to Ted, and he loved them very much. His children and grandchildren meant a lot to him. He also enjoyed the time spent socializing with friends at coffee shops and at home.
In December of 2023, Ted celebrated 30 years of sobriety with Alcoholics Anonymous. The mantra of the group is ‘one day at a time’, which is exactly how he made it to that milestone. He made lifelong friendships within that group.
Ted loved the outdoors. He was an active member and director with the Seine River Wildlife Association for 17 years. Camping, fishing, and hunting were some of Ted’s favorite pastimes. Many good memories were made at Whitemouth Lake, Moose Lake, Spring Lake, Off Lake, and Roseau River. Fall was Ted’s favorite time of year, and he loved spending time with Dorothy and their dog Lacey at their cabin in Sundown.
Ted was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in June of 2023. He fought the good fight with the help of CancerCare, Dr. Reimer, and the Palliative Care team in Steinbach. Special thanks to Kim Rempel for her supportive care. To the 2nd floor staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre: THANK YOU for all your love and support! You are an amazing team.
We are so thankful for all the thoughtful words, prayers, and acts of kindness during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Health-Sante Sud (In Memo Line: CancerCare Steinbach)
