Kelan Lynch, a rising star in the world of classical music, has recently been accepted into the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Kelan, a Grande Prairie native, honed his skills as a countertenor during his formative years with the Grande Prairie Boys Choir. His dedication to his craft has now earned him a spot at one of the most esteemed music schools in the world.

Reflecting on his journey, Lynch said, "My time with the Grande Prairie Boys Choir was hugely influential in shaping my voice and passion for classical music. It truly became my second family, and those experiences laid the foundation for where I am today." As he prepares to embark on this exciting new chapter, Kelan continues to share his talent with his hometown, including an upcoming performance on August 27th, where the community will have the chance to witness his unique voice firsthand. "It's an honor to return home and showcase the art that I’ve grown to love," Lynch added.

After starting his studies as a baritone at the University of Alberta, he made the bold decision to switch to the rare countertenor voice, despite initial skepticism. "Convincing my teachers to support my transition to countertenor was challenging, but it was a risk worth taking," Lynch explained. His success in this rare vocal range has now opened doors to international opportunities, marking him as a talent to watch in the classical music world.

Before heading to London, Kelan Lynch will grace the stage in Grande Prairie one last time with a special concert on Tuesday, August 27th. The performance will feature Lynch alongside emerging Canadian tenor Matthew Daylin and pianist Shannon Hebert, one of Lynch's former instructors at the University of Alberta. The event, set to take place at Trinity Lutheran Church, will offer the community a rare chance to experience Lynch’s extraordinary countertenor voice in an intimate setting. "It's an honor to return home and showcase the art that I’ve grown to love," Lynch said, encouraging locals to attend and share in this celebration of classical music. Admission is by donation, making it accessible for all to enjoy an evening of remarkable talent.
