On Wednesday afternoon, Villa Youville hosted a scooter parade for their residents.

Valerie Gauthier, the Recreation Coordinator shares that this is the third annual scooter parade in Ste. Anne.

“I have a coworker that started this a couple of years ago and she's no longer working with us, but I figured I would keep the tradition going because the residents really enjoyed it in the past years. And so today we had our four students working and we also had a lot of volunteers that came in and helped us throughout the summer to prep for this. Especially today, they helped decorate the resident’s scooters, the wheelchairs, the floats, and after that, this afternoon we all went out and went down Central and into the park and had a scooter parade.”

She says the parade helps the residents get involved with the community.

“The residents were really excited to be part of this activity like they have been in the past and they look forward to it now, and it's kind of nice to keep a tradition like that going. We also like to involve the community because you need community to have a parade. So, we called the daycares, and the daycares all come out and we try to spread the word about it and people bring their kids.”

Gauthier explains that they had around 80 to 100 people participating in the parade, and it was lots of fun for everyone.

“That would include my residents, my students, the volunteers, and also the staff here that were part of the parade. But we also have a lot of people that were on the side of the road, the daycares. And just other staff that brought their kids and grandkids.”

To put on an event like this takes a lot of help and Gauthier is very grateful for everyone who made the parade possible.

“I would like to thank my summer students who worked very, very hard on this throughout this summer and the volunteers. And then I'd also like to thank my staff and the Villa team. They all put in a helping hand today, and without them, it couldn't happen. I also want to thank the community for coming out and supporting our residents and just supporting the community, and to make friendships and network. It's a really good time.”
