Until September 30, motorists can expect traffic delays on Highway 581, near Range Road 11, just east of Carstairs, as culvert repairs will continue.

According to 511 Alberta, 30 kilometres an hour speed restrictions will be enforced, and lane closures will be in place, with one-lane alternating traffic. Passing will be prohibited, and temporary traffic signals will also be installed. The speed reductions and lane closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Motorists can expect rough patches of road, no centerline markings, narrow shoulders, and no wide load. Flag persons will be on-site, and motorists are asked to obey all posted signs and watch for workers.

It is also anticipated that five-minute road closures will be implemented while equipment crosses the road. Wide loads will not be permitted in the construction zone. Please obey all posted signage.

However, there is some good news: other road maintenance operations in the area are expected to wrap up by the end of this week, on August 30. The operations currently being conducted on Highway 581 in both directions on the QEII highway southbound have also meant speed restriction to 30 kilometres an hour, lane closures, and one-lane alternating traffic. An on-site detour is available, even though motorists can continue to expect delays.

Airdrie's construction continues

Until August 29, temporary road closures will occur on Main Street South to accommodate shallow utility construction activities. Then, beginning next week on Monday, until August 30, there will be temporary road closures of Main Street North for deep utility installation.

According to the City of Airdrie's website, Monday's daytime hours are listed as 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., while the following days, work will occur from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Other road construction within Airdrie includes:

  • A road closure until October 31 of Township Road 274 to accommodate the Nose Creek Bridge Restoration project.
  • A temporary road closure of 24 Street North until October 1 to accommodate the installation of a two-lane undivided paved roadway.
  • A temporary road closure of Flett Drive will be held until September 20 to accommodate deep utility installation.
