A man has been arrested following an investigation into fraudulent credit card purchases of tires.
According to a release from RCMP, members of the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit along with Lethbridge Police Service Property Crime Unit discovered that purchases of tires were made after six businesses in southern Alberta had phone or online orders of BF Goodrich K02 275/60/R20 tires.
RCMP said an order of eight to twelve tires were bought and a man picked them up in a U-Haul van the next day.
On August 22, three search warrants were completed and in total, 150 BF Goodrich K02 tires were found in two storage lockers.
Shawn Robineault, a resident of Montreal, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of the following:
- Fraud over $5,000.
- Fraud under $5,000.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
- Identity fraud.
- Identity theft.
- Fail to comply with a probation order.
Robineault has been placed into custody and had a judicial hearing at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary earlier today.
RCMP is looking for any more victims of the fraudulent tire purchases.
