Strathmore's pool league is launching next month, and they're looking for more players.
The league is mainly operated by King Eddy Pub and runs throughout several bars in Strathmore, including The Station, The Wheatland Inn, and sometimes Boston Pizza. The league is also supported by SML Entertainment. According to organizer Leslie McMahon, the league begins in the first or second week of September and runs until April.
"Every Tuesday night there are four teams playing at every pub," said Leslie McMahon, one of the league's organizers. "This is our second year joined with SML, and they're a really huge pool league that has tournaments all around the world."
The league works in teams of four, with last year bringing in 10 teams, and a roster of 40 players. Every person plays each member of the other team once during a game, which leads to four games per player each night.
"Points go by ball count and wins, then we take all of those teams and have a playoff, and that determines the winner of that year's league," added McMahon.
The league also works on a handicap system, which helps make the game accessible to players of all skill levels and makes it enjoyable for everyone.
"We put all the money back into the league, so every team wins something. Teams one through 10 win a cash prize, and we also have a banquet where all remaining money goes towards gifts and dinner. Every person who comes gets two tickets into a draw to win extra prizes. "
Those interested in joining the league can do so by either signing up on SML's website or by going to the King Eddy in person, where McMahon can help with registration.
