Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope captivated Canadians over 40 years ago when he embarked on a run to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.

Strathmore has hosted a Terry Fox Run since 1997. This year the run will take place in Kinsmen Park on September 15. The Ampitheatre is the hub for the event and there will be a one-kilometre run around Kinsmen Lake.

Following that the run will continue to the path along Grey's Lake which is about another four kilometres and then back to Kinsmen Park for a total of five kilometres.

Diana Baird, the organizer for this year's initiative says the event doesn't have a fundraising goal this time.

"We just want to impress upon everybody in Strathmore that cancer is still here. We want to keep on with Terry's vision to find a cure and every single dollar counts."

Baird added that Fox is an incredible inspiration for many people in Strathmore.

"You'd be pretty hard-pressed to find anybody in Strathmore who hasn't been touched by cancer," says Baird. "Either through a family or friends or themselves."

According to Baird, cancer has impacted her deeply, "I lost my father to cancer when I was a teenager. And as an adult, I've also lost my father-in-law and a brother-in-law to cancer."

According to the Terry Fox Foundation, the organization has raised over $900 million for cancer research.

Registration for the Strathmore event will kick off at 12:30 p.m. and the run will start at 1:15 p.m.
