The City of Chestermere announced the launch of its updated Municipal Development Plan (MDP).

The launch was announced on Monday (Aug. 26) and sets the roadmap for the city's future. The plan will direct city council and administration on how to make decisions based on community facilities, parks, infrastructure, and more.

The city has a project timeline in six stages, with the plan currently in stage two, which includes the first round of public engagement.

"The MDP update will include various opportunities for the community to participate and provide input," wrote the city on its website. "During the first round of public engagement, we want to hear about your aspirations for the future of Chestermere."

There will be pop-up community events on the following days:

  • Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. during the Chestermere County Fair.
  • Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. in the Chestermere Public Library.
  • Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. in John Peake Memorial Park.
  • Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. in the Chestermere Recreation Centre.

For those who can't make it out to the pop-up events, there is also a survey available to take on the City's website, and will close on Sept. 25.

The MDP must include strategies that increase density in appropriate areas while enhancing the livability and functionality of the community.
