Winkler Police officers recently arrested a man that was prohibited from driving nation-wide.

While on patrol around 9 p.m. one evening (August 18th), officers noticed a vehicle driving through a parking lot without its lights on. They came to learn the vehicle was unregistered and pulled it over. That's when police say the driver, who initially gave them a fake name, showed signs of impairment. Police also discovered he was prohibited from driving in Canada due to multiple previous charges of driving while impaired.

An initial breath sample resulted in a fail, and two additional tests back at the police station showed readings of over twice the legal limit.

The man was charged with driving while impaired, driving over .08 and driving while prohibited. He was released on a undertaking with a court date.

Additionally, the man was issued an appearance notice for charges of: driving an unregistered vehicle and improper operation of required lamps.

He was suspended from holding a driver’s licence for three months and the vehicle he was driving was seized for 60 days.
