The Grande Prairie Salvation Army is gearing up for its annual Food Bank Drive on September 12, and the need in the community has never been greater. According to Captain Peter Kim, the demand for food assistance has continued to grow exponentially, with one in five residents currently relying on the food bank. “We are in desperate need of food this year, more than any other year,” said Captain Kim. “People have to wait a month just to pick up their hampers.”
To meet the rising demand, the Salvation Army is calling on the community for support. Volunteers are needed to cover 137 routes, but so far, only 18 teams have signed up. Captain Kim encourages everyone to get involved, either by registering a team at gpfooddrive.ca, donating online, or having food ready at their doors for pickup. “We are grateful for the generosity of the people in Grande Prairie,” he added. “And we pray that we'll be able to meet the needs of our community.”
