The last month of summer saw average conditions though some extreme days didn't show up in the statistics.

Summer has been capped off as August has come and gone, with Environment Canada saying the stats show a relatively average month.

That's in terms of both temperature and rainfall in Estevan, though one reporting irregularity may mean the numbers don't exactly match what happened.

Meteorologist Brian Proctor talks about the statistics that came out of the month.

"As of the 29th, it was a pretty normal month, if I can put it that way. If we look at Estevan itself, the mean monthly temperature was 18.7 and the normal is 18.6 so very very close to normal at this point in time. If we back over the period of record of 109 years in Estevan it was the 50th warmest, so a very average month from a temperature point of view."

Meanwhile, rainfall was a bit down in the statistics but not too much drier than normal.

"If we spend down to take a look at precipitation, it was a dry month. We received 33.9mm through the 29th of the month versus the normal 51.7mm and so really somewhere on the order of about 66 per cent of normal precipitation, making it the 44th driest year in 111 years."

"Those numbers could shift a little bit as we add in what occurred over the weekend. But in general terms, a pretty average month from a temperature point of view and a little bit drier than normal from a precipitation point of view."

For people who saw the massive storm that came through a couple of weeks ago, just over 30mm sounds low, with more than that amount coming in one night over the city.

The data that goes into the reports is taken from the measuring station at the Estevan airport and may not be fully accurate for the whole city in the case of localized systems such as heavy thunderstorms.
