The Strathmore Municipal Library ended its Summer Reading Program.
The event has run since June.
The theme of this year's program was all things space-related, which featured events such as an intergalactic Nerf battle, obstacle courses, movie days, and more. The events are put together by the program's coordinators, post-secondary students from the area.
"They typically start four to six weeks before the program with the goal being a leadership position, allowing young adults the opportunity to build a program from the ground up," said Laura Henderson, public services manager at the library. "We have a framework ready for them they can tap into, but then they plan it from scratch."
The program also had 20 volunteers to help assist with the program, with 750 children attending the programs throughout the season.
Henderson added that the Summer Reading Program is well received throughout the year, including the Community Friday event series, which required no registration to attend. Although the summer programming has ended, the library is now moving into more events throughout the fall.
"We're now into our early literacy program, while the Summer Reading Program was focused on those school-aged children," said Henderson. "I would say it's relatively similar if not a little bit busier, but in a different way."
Some of the events coming up this month include an online book club's in-person meet-up on Sept. 17 and a back-to-school party on Sept. 20. All of the library's programming is available on the Strathmore Municipal Library's website.
