Strathmore is ready to ring out the weekend with an upcoming event.
The Come Try Ringette event will be held at the Strathmore Family Centre Arena on Sunday (Sept. 8) from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Martin Croft, president of the Strathmore Minor Ringette Association says the initiative is a great way to introduce families to the sport of ringette.
"A lot of people think it's hockey without a blade."
According to Croft, ringette is more of a team game. During the event, participants will learn about the fundamentals of skating, handling a ring, and how to hold a stick properly.
Croft added that the minimum requirement for interested kids is a skating or skiing helmet, skates, and gloves. Elbow pads and shin pads are also recommended for newer skaters.
Ringette sticks will also be available at the event.
Croft explains that the sport of ringette is more affordable than hockey.
"We're almost half the cost of hockey and the Strathmore Minor Ringette Association is one of the most affordable ringette programs in southern Alberta."
