It is with great sadness the family of Melva Marie Jurgens age 86 announce her passing on September 2, 2024 at the Meadows in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The funeral mass was held on September 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Christ The Redeemer Roman Catholic Church in Swift Current, Saskatchewan with Father Daniel Malone officiating. The pallbearers were Grandson Carson Wiebe, Mike Erdahl, Gary Wilson, Florence Wilson, Archie Green and Kathy Green. The honorary pallbearers were her grandson Brandon Wiebe and all who shared in Melva’s life.

Melva was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on February 23, 1938 to Joseph and Susan (nee Konner) Wapple. Melva married the love of her life, Clem Jurgens on October 14, 1958 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Carmel, Saskatchewan. The Lord had decided that Clem and Melva were two people who could open their hearts to any child and on February 14, 1967 they happily accepted Shelley into their hearts. On September 17, 1969 once again God asked them to open their hearts and placed Dwight lovingly in their care. Over the years, Melva worked in a few different jobs and eventually found her calling as a special care aide. She was one of the first in the area to receive her certification, and was always happy to help train new staff.

Melva was active in Brownies, as a troup leader. She did not formally join a lot of organizations but always made herself available to help out wherever she could. Melva always enjoyed spending time with “her boys” Brandon and Carson; she was always up for a game of bingo and on Wednesday nights she was often found at the Legion Hall. Blue Jays games were always quiet time in the house. Melva enjoyed her coffee times with friends and traveling when she could.

Melva is lovingly remembered by her son Dwight; daughter Shelley (Mel) Wiebe; grandsons Brandon and Carson Wiebe; all from Swift Current, Saskatchewan and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Clem Jurgens (March 29, 2011); her parents Joseph and Susan (nee Konner) Wapple; and by all of her siblings.

Melva’s family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Meadows for their compassionate care during Melva’s time with them. Donations on behalf of Melva may be made to a Charity of the donor’s choice.
