The family of Kenneth Grant Wik would like to share this Celebration of Life with all who knew & loved Ken, Husband, Dad, Grandpa & Great Grandpa on this day, just shy of his 83 birthday.
Ken was born in Swift Current, October 28th 1941 to Jack & Ruth Wik. He was also the younger brother to his only sister, Jackie (Maclean).
Ken loved living in Swift Current, where he spent his entire life. His working career began at age 12 as a shoeshine boy in the Healy Hotel barbershop with his father, Jack. By 16, he was a barber himself. He briefly worked with Mobile Oil as a battery operator before embarking on a sales career at Ham Motors and later Jackson Motors. Ken then shifted from vehicle sales to agricultural implements with Southwest Pro-Ag, ultimately concluding his sales career at L & R Truck Center.
Ken was always a farmer at heart! He began his agricultural journey in the Cantaur region during the 1960s. He married Vonda Everson in 1961, and they had two children, Keni-Lynn in 1963 and Ron in 1965. He nurtured his passion for farming there, until he acquired the Wik family farm near Gull Lake. In 1984 he married Olga (Wiebe) & they lived and thrived on the farm until retirement ultimately moving back to Swift Current.
In retirement, they enjoyed cherished travels to Mexico and Hawaii, spent winters in Yuma with lifelong friends and eventually family, & treasured summers at their seasonal retreat in Willow Bend Campground, Maple Creek, until Ken’s passing.
Ken was a devoted husband to Olga and a loving father to Keni-Lynn and Ron. He cherished his close relationships with their spouses, Wayne and Sandra, and held a special bond with his grandchildren—Mariah, Zach, Josh, & Nathan—as well as his great-grandchildren, Myles and Blake. Ken also enjoyed his time with Olga’s brothers —Ruben, Dave, Bob, and Bill— and enjoyed the company of their children and extended family.
Ken took great pride in his Norwegian heritage and in 1979 he traveled to Norway with his father, Jack, to visit relatives and explore the roots of the Wik family.
Ken’s warm smile and natural ability to connect with everyone he met created a truly impressive circle of friends. In retirement, he took pleasure in ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle in both Canada and the USA. When he wasn’t “going for a spin” or meeting friends for coffee, he could often be found sitting outside, admiring the ever-changing prairie skies he loved so much.
His passing leaves a deep void for his wife of over 50 years, his two children and their families, and all who were lucky enough to know and call him friend.
Ken passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the age of 82.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday September 21, 2024 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm, at the Eagles Hall (1910 South Service Road West) in Swift Current. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
