David William McClure (a.k.a. “Pops”) was born in Gladstone on October 9, 1924 and passed away on September 9, 2024 at the age of 99.

Dave made a home in Helston where he would get involved with the community as much as he could and took part in the sports, he loved such as hockey and curling, the latter having a special place in his heart. During his early adulthood Dave was a farmer in Helston where he and his wife, Frieda Thalmann, raised their two boys Brent and Brian McClure. After putting in an honest day’s work Dave, or as everyone at this point knew him, “Pops” decided to retire, enjoying it by living with his son Brent and his family. Here Dave would help tend to the garden and enjoy time with his grandkids Brendan and Ryan McClure while tinkering on anything he could from custom burn barrels to makeshift buckles for his slippers.

He would enjoy western bound road trips with Brent and His grandsons throughout his retirement creating memories to last their lifetime. A family man, he was able to relive his passions of hockey and curling through watching his grandkids experience it for their first time which anyone could tell meant a lot to him. Family didn’t just stop there but extended to the many animals Dave loved as well, during any moment of time there was an animal at his side weather it was Sparkles and Sandy, Hooch and Tess or Bear and Foxy he would always be seen with a dog at his side. And finally, caretaker to many wild cats as his scooter could be seen like the pied piper as they flock to follow him to the barn.

Moreover, Dave left an impression wherever he went with whoever he met. He had a charm and wit that preceded him. Dave passed away one month before his 100th birthday on September 9, 2024.
