Chestermere RCMP is offering tips to businesses in the city to reduce break-ins and theft.

"So far this year, the Alberta RCMP have received 2,585 complaints of break and enters to businesses," wrote the RCMP on the City of Chestermere's website.

Safety tips for business owners include:

  • Install motion sensor lights or keep indoor lights on at all times.
  • Invest in security cameras both inside and outside of your business.
  • Install an alarm system.
  • Avoid placing valuables near the window.
  • Install roll shutters of bars on your windows.
  • Consider using fences and sturdy locks as a preventative measure.
  • Keep track of keys and fobs that can access your business.

According to police, these tips can help protect businesses from the cost of crime and the stress that comes with it.

Police are also asking residents and business owners to report any suspicious activity by calling 911 or Chestermere RCMP at 403-204-8777.
