In the early morning hours of Sept. 13, 2024, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of an attempted theft and possible stabbing.  Police quickly responded to the scene and discovered a 46-year-old male victim, suffering from a wound to the arm.  Life saving measures were quickly implemented by officers on scene and an investigation launched into what happened.  The victim reported to police that he interrupted a suspect who was caught rifling through his vehicle. A struggled ensued as the victim attempted to detain the suspect.  After being struck with an unknown edged weapon the male suspect fled the scene on a bicycle. The suspect was described as:

  • Wearing dark coloured pants
  • Black hooded sweatshirt
  • Wearing a large backpack

In addition to any eyewitnesses, RCMP are urging anyone who may have security or dash camera footage recorded on Sept. 13, 2024, between the hours of 4:50 a.m., and 5:10 a.m., in the area of 107 Avenue between 100 and 99 Street in Grande Prairie to come forward and contact the Grande Prairie RCMP.

As members of the communities we serve and live in, we understand that the theft of personal property is extremely frustrating, however we cannot stress enough the potential dangers of chasing or physically confronting suspects that are engaging in this high- risk activity. If confronted, these individuals may also use violence to evade capture and there is always the possibility that they may be armed.
