The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested Elijah Blake Strawberry.
He was charged with second-degree murder in a shooting that happened near Strathmore in August.
Strawberry had been on the run from police for over a month. A warrant was issued for his arrest following a shooting that killed Rocky View County employee Colin Hough and injured another unnamed man.
According to police, Strawberry was found at a home in O'Chiese First Nation near Red Deer.
Strawberry has been placed into custody after appearing before a Justice of the Peace. He has a court date set for September 16 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton.
“We received tips and information from the public over the course of the last few weeks and the arrest of Elijah Strawberry serves as a reminder of the value of public assistance in maintaining public safety, “ said chief superintendent Roberta McKale. “The Alberta RCMP had a significant co-ordinated effort with many different units engaged from across the province offering thousands of work hours to locate and arrest Elijah Strawberry."
Strawberry was just one suspect in the homicide. The other was Arthur Wayne Penner, who was arrested just a few days after the shooting.
Despite both suspects being in custody, police say that the investigation into the homicide will continue.
