The excitement around 3x3 basketball in Humboldt continues as the Humboldt Minor Basketball Association (HMBA) announces an upcoming pre-season camp with Saskatchewan basketball mainstay Paul Humbert.

The player development camps go on Sundays starting October 6 through to November 27.

The 3x3 game definitely experienced a boost with hometown player and Olympian Paige Crozon heightening the local profile.

“Obviously Humboldt was behind Paige on the team’s Olympic run with 3x3 basketball, and that stimulated an interest province wide,” said Kerri Archibald with the HMBA. “Some of us were lucky enough to watch her play in Saskatoon this summer as well.”

That exposure spawned a great response to a youth camp with Crozon in August, and now a developmental camp to get older middle years and high school players into the game.

“It’s a really great developmental opportunity for the 5 on 5 game with the things that you pick up and learn with 3x3,” Archibald explained. “Obviously there are more touches, and it’s more on the go. So, we’re hoping that will enable our players to be more successful in the 5 on 5 game when they get to their season.”

Each camp session will include 30 minutes of game instruction followed by 30-45 minutes of round robin 3x3 games.

Paul Humbert has been a fixture in basketball coaching for close to 50 years. He recently held the post of learning facilitator for Basketball Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program.

The 3x3 Basketball Camp is open to grades 7 – 12 athletes. Spots will be filled on a first come basis. Register at: TeamLinkt Registration
