The organizers with the Lake Lenore Service Club are cooking up a fall dance that’s not your traditional seasonal fare.

The organization of women that serves Lake Lenore charities and community groups are putting together a Mock Wedding Dance for October 26, just in time for Hallowe’en dress up.

Lynette Briens, president of the Service Club, is the designer of the event. She says it’s a spinoff of a mock wedding, a rehearsal or a “faux wedding” of sorts. There’s no actual wedding taking place, but anyone who has celebrated a traditional wedding anywhere in rural Saskatchewan knows about the fun that ensues.

“We wanted to do our own spin on it with no limitations,” Briens says. “If we wind up with six brides and grooms – great. If we end up with full on wedding parties or multiple wedding parties – great! The crazy aunt and uncle, the best friend who isn’t married with 15 bridesmaid dresses – we're hoping we get an array of people who come out for this.”

Lynette says she’s not alone in having fun getting dressed up, so she’s hoping people will dig out the dresses and the well-worn sports jackets or go thrifting for a new fashion statement.

“We’re piggy backing a little on Hallowe’en, so I’ve had people reach out who want to come as the Corpse Bride, and we said absolutely – if you want to do that, go right ahead.”

Also planned are a photo booth area for those classic wedding event snapshots, a round of the Newlywed Game, the matching contest popularized on TV, signature drinks, and much more to add to the evening's entertainment. There will be prizes for best dressed and no doubt other surprises throughout the evening

It’s the first effort for the group in hosting an event like this on this scale. The Lake Lenore Service Club hosts car bingos and Christmas cheer events, all with the aim of raising funds for community ventures. This time around, the funds raised from the dance will be geared toward the community bowling alley.

Consider this as your invitation to the festivities at the Mock Wedding Dance in Lake Lenore.
