Unique lunar eclipse visible from Strathmore tonight

A special partial lunar eclipse will be visible from Strathmore on Tuesday (Sept. 17) during the night.

This is the second lunar eclipse of the year, with the eclipse also serving as both a supermoon and a harvest moon.

According to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada based in Calgary, the supermoon is a full moon closest to Earth in orbit, making it appear slightly larger in the sky.

A harvest moon is the closest full moon to the fall equinox, which is when there is an equal amount of daytime and nighttime.

Although the eclipse will only cover about 3 per cent of the moon, this is the last eclipse of the year, with the next visible lunar eclipse happening in May of next year.

The eclipse will begin at around 7 p.m. and last until 11 p.m.
