The defending Western Hockey League champs didn't start the new season the way they wanted!

The Moose Jaw Warriors suffered back-to-back losses on the weekend, falling 5-2 in Friday’s season opener in Brandon against the Wheat Kings, and dropped a 6-4 decision to the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night.

The Warriors will be back on the ice Friday when they host the Regina Pats.

The Winmar AAA Warriors lost a pair preseason of games to the Swift Current Legionnaires this weekend, 5-4 on Friday and 4-3 on Sunday.

The two teams will match up for a home-and-home series for the start of the regular season, with the first game on Saturday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. 

5A 12-a-side football on Friday saw Central Collegiate beat Swift Current 45-15.

4A 9-a-side football on Friday, it was Moose Jaw Vanier over Notre Dame 41-0, Lumsden shutout Gull Lake 71-0, and Shaunavon beat Maple Creek 51-7.

Moose Jaw Tennis had their year end club tournament over the weekend, which saw Men's Singles won by Elijah Baiton, and Women's Singles won by Megan Smith. The Juniors' winner was Carter Lichtenwald. In Doubles action, it was Scott Evans and Brian Swanson for the men, and Ning Long and Megan Smith for the women. Recreational winners were Gregg Gower and Blake Friesen.

Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays fell 4-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. Today the Boston Red Sox visit the Jays for the first of a three-game series. 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders won 37-29 against the Stampeders on Friday. The Roughriders next play the Ottawa Redblacks at Mosaic Stadium Saturday afternoon.
