The Government of Saskatchewan has designated the week of September 23 to 27 as **Saskatchewan Construction Week**, recognizing the vital contributions of the province's construction industry to economic development and community building.

“Saskatchewan’s construction industry is not only a major source of jobs but plays a pivotal role in developing the infrastructure necessary for a thriving economy,” said Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison. “As we strive to meet our Growth Plan goals of increasing the population to 1.4 million and creating 100,000 new jobs, the construction sector will be central to this expansion by building the offices, housing, and facilities that support our growing communities.”

The construction sector has proven to be a powerful economic driver in the province. In 2023, the industry’s real GDP grew by 13.6 percent, reaching $6 billion. The sector employs over 43,000 people, making it one of the largest job creators in Saskatchewan.

“During Saskatchewan Construction Week, we acknowledge the hard-working professionals who are the backbone of our province’s economy,” said Shannon Friesen, co-CEO of the Construction Associations of Saskatchewan. “These skilled workers, often working behind the scenes, build the essential infrastructure that keeps our communities moving forward.”

Co-CEO Kevin Dureau echoed the sentiment, adding, “Their contributions are crucial, not only in building roads, schools, and hospitals but in shaping the future of Saskatchewan. This week, we honour their dedication, resilience, and the vital role they play in ensuring our province’s continued prosperity.”

Saskatchewan’s economy has seen significant growth in recent years, with the construction industry playing a key role. According to Statistics Canada, the province’s real GDP reached a record $77.9 billion in 2023, a $1.2 billion increase from the previous year, marking a 1.6 percent growth rate—well above the national average of 1.2 percent.

Private capital investment in the province is projected to rise to $14.2 billion in 2024, representing a 14.4 percent increase over the previous year, the highest projected growth in Canada.

To further support the construction and business sectors, the Government of Saskatchewan recently launched the "Securing the Next Decade of Growth – Saskatchewan's Investment Attraction Strategy." The initiative, combined with the province’s trade and investment website, **InvestSK.ca**, aims to position Saskatchewan as the premier destination for business and investment in Canada.
