Wheatland County is hopeful that a week full of information and safety tips will help save lives.

Council officially declared Rail Safety Week from Monday until Sunday (Sept. 29).

According to the county, the week is meant to raise awareness about the need for safety around railways.

Staff say they will share tips and resources on their social media pages to help prevent accidents and keep residents safe.

"Railway safety is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re a driver, pedestrian, or cyclist, understanding the risks and how to stay safe around railways is crucial. Together, let’s work to make Wheatland County a safer place to live, work, and travel," says the county in a news release.

CN Rail has a few tips for residents to stay safe around trains. Staff with the organization say to stop a safe distance from tracks and crossings, look both ways to ensure trains are not approaching and listen for approaching trains.
