The Strathmore Spartans senior girls' volleyball team had a star-studded start to the season.
In a tournament hosted at Drumheller Valley Secondary School, the Spartans secured gold, defeating all six of their opponents throughout the weekend.
"After losing the final the previous weekend at the Camrose tournament, these girls were going to stop at nothing to take home gold this weekend," wrote the Spartans in a release.
The final match was against Strathcona Tweedsmuir, a private school based out of Okotoks. The Spartans ended the first set 25-10 before losing the second set 20-25.

"Though they had just lost the second set, the Strathmore girls did not look defeated. Instead, they used that loss to push through into the third set," added the Spartans.
The final set ended 15-10, which led to the Spartans taking home the victory.
According to the Spartans, this was the first gold medal for many of the team's Grade 12 players.
Since their season began at the beginning of the month, the Spartans have won both silver and gold in regional tournaments, with another event set up for this weekend.
