A Calgary couple is celebrating after winning $1 million.
Michelle and Alan Hill won the money in a Lotto Max draw on Tuesday (July 23).
The couple bought the ticket from 7-Eleven at 166 Crowfoot Way NW in Calgary.
“I was at work at my desk when I finally checked an older ticket,” Alan said. “I scanned it at my desk, and I had my buddy at work double-check because I thought I was doing it wrong.”
“I checked it on the app, probably a lot,” he chuckled. “I couldn’t believe it.”

According to a news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, Alan went home after work to tell his wife and prank her about the winnings.
“I said, ‘Our lives are going to change forever,” and that we’d won the lottery,” he explains. “She said, ‘Yeah right!’”
As a joke, Alan said he tried to pull a fast one on his wife, scanning a $2 winning ticket he had in his pocket to see what she would say before scanning the actual million-dollar ticket.
“I really was shocked,” said Michelle.
The couple says they are still trying to figure out what they will use the money for.
“We’ve never had a million dollars before,” added Alan. “So, I’m not sure how we’ll spend it exactly.”
“We’ll probably finish up the mortgage and put some into investments for retirement,” says Michelle.
The Hills won the money by matching numbers 22, 33, 34, 42, 43, 46, and 48.
