A total of $4,800 has been donated by Golden West Broadcasting to help fund the music programs at Strathmore High School and Crowther Memorial Junior High School.

Each school will receive $2,400.

Bryan Allsopp, the music teacher for both schools says the partnership dates back over five years.

According to Allsopp, in the past, the money has gone to funding items like percussion instruments. He says the schools have also put the money towards international trips.

Allsopp says this year's funds will go a long way.

"We'll likely put most of the money towards equipment purchases. We have a couple of instruments we need to purchase."

He added it will also support day-to-day operations like repairs, purchasing new music, and funding for festivals.

He says the groups are headed to Calgary and Red Deer this year which will help with bussing costs and bringing in clinicians.

Allsopp mentioned there are more than a hundred students between the two students.

There are separate grade seven, eight, and nine bands which consist of 25 students, while the high school band has 31 students.
