Students at the schools in the city of Weyburn are joining others across Canada in the Terry Fox Walk. This yearly event helps raise money and awareness for cancer research, keeping Terry Fox’s dream of finding a cure alive.
The walk honours Terry’s journey and teaches students about the importance of helping those with cancer.
Terry Fox embarked on a cross-country run with only one leg, raising funds and awareness for cancer research. He ran for over 140 days, covering over 5000 kilometers before being forced to stop due to cancer spreading to his lungs. He raised 1.7 million dollars for cancer research, equivalent to six million dollars today, and inspired many others to donate with the Terry Fox Foundation. Terry Fox passed away from cancer on June 28th, 1981.
By participating in the walk, Weyburn schools are helping support cancer research and spreading Terry Fox’s message of hope. Below are photos from St. Michael’s and Legacy Park Elementary, which show students and staff coming together for this important cause.
